The gilded bronze harlequin stands on a rectangular verdigris green marble base, in a very humorous pose. As a comic character, the expression on his face is perfect.

The Harlequin is one of the best known comic servant characters from the Italian Commedia dell’arte. The Harlequin is characterised by his costume. His role is that of a light hearted, nimble, clever servant - often acting to thwart the plans of the master. He later develops into the proto-type of the romantic hero.
